Toliver House

In 1787 Nathaniel Gordon founded the Gordon Tavern located at the Gordonsville circle. The Gordon Tavern, in the words of Thomas Jefferson, was a "good house" hosting Marquis de Lafayette, James Madison, James Monroe & Robert E. Lee; follow "Fredericksburg Great Road," right past the Gordon Tavern. Toliver House was part of the original Nathaniel Gordon holdings constructed circa 1870. Toliver is anglicized for "Taliaferro," an old Virginia surname found on the oldest recorded property deed. Today, we support regional farmers endorsing humane, healthy agricultural practices.
